By Jerry Gladstone,
Can you bounce back after failure…
Take some advice from a business associate of mine for many years and co-founder of Hanna-Barbera Productions – Joe Barbera.
As Joe tells it, “after creating with my partner the cartoon series Tom and Jerry for MGM Studios with a single call—conveyed to me secondhand—my whole career disappeared. I was fired!
I had a choice, would I give up or could I make this the end of one career and the beginning of another.”
What did Joe do…he dusted himself off and he and his partner started the now legendary Hanna-Barbera Productions and brought some of the most lovable cartoon characters—including many I used to run home from school to watch: The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Tom and Jerry, Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo, Huckleberry Hound, Quick Draw McGraw, Top Cat, and Magilla Gorilla. Together they produced over three thousand animated half-hour shows featuring more than two thousand characters.
Fact is, Joe was a delivery boy as a young man, but with a bit of talent and allot of perseverance during his career he won Seven Oscars and Eight Emmys.
No doubt we will all get knocked down from time to time that’s just life. Perhaps “not fair” at times but each one of us takes a beating one way or another.
Joe’s beating turned out to be a blessing in disguise. So the next time events don’t go your way, realize it’s just part of life and use the situation as fuel to propel you bigger and better than ever!
