Your Pathway to Courage, Risks and Reward
Learning How to Take Chances to Change Your Life
Welcome to Module #4 of the Common Thread Success Academy coaching segment, “Your Pathway to Courage, Risks and Reward.”
You have made great progress in this coaching program by:
- exploring what it means to take a chance and make a mistake,
- discovering what your attitude is toward taking chances,
- looking at why you avoid risk, and,
- exploring ideas to support you in risk taking.
The next step is to evaluate the rewards you gain from taking chances.
Taking chances is simply a matter of perspective. Those who are more willing to take chances are looking at what they stand to gain, rather than what they could lose. They also know that even though something may not work out, no decision is catastrophic.
World boxing icon Muhammad Ali took many chances, not only in the boxing ring, but in life. His personal convictions could have cost him everything, but Ali stood strong for what he believed in. Take a few minutes to watch the video below to learn how you might have more in common with Muhammad Ali than you think.
Yes, he Ali was willing to go to jail and give up his championship title to take a stand for his beliefs and values. Continue to watch Part 2 of the video to learn how you can have the same courage and take risks like Muhammad Ali.
If you look logically at what you stand to lose and what you stand to gain, and make an educated decision, you truly can’t lose when taking chances.
In fact, if you are consistently taking risks in life you will ultimately come out ahead.
Thomas Edison failed thousands of times when creating the light bulb before he finally succeeded. No matter how many failings he experienced, he only needed to succeed once. Today, he is known as one of the most famous inventors of all time.
Happiness in life comes from acknowledging the need for change, and being willing to try something new because the status quo is no longer working.
With this in mind, taking chances offers great rewards, which is the third element in the “Courage, Risk, Rewards” approach to taking chances.”
Print out Worksheet #3 – The Rewards of Risk-Taking.
Think of a risk you have been hesitant to take. Write your answer in Section 1 of the worksheet. Then return to this module.
Now, by answering numbers 2 & 3, look at the possible losses and rewards you might encounter if you took that risk.
Then, follow steps 4 & 5 by weighing the risks and rewards, and considering the consequences of taking action or not.
Then return to this module.
Complete Module #4 by answering the questions below.
