Start Your Goals, Achieve Your Goals
On Your Way to Greatness!

Module #4:

Getting from Point A to Point B

Welcome to Module #4 of the Common Thread Success Academy coaching program on “Start Your Goals, Achieve Your Goals On Your Way to Greatness!”

As the title states, this program is about both visioning and goal setting. As you have explored in the previous modules, having a vision is important, but it is only a part of the success formula. It is also important to set goals to support your vision.

So why is it so important to have goals?

Without goals, we lack focus and direction in our lives. But with goals, we give our lives a course or path that can lead us to success. Goals are like following a road map that is going to help you get from where you are to where you want to be.

World renowned martial artist Bruce Lee wrote a letter to himself entitled “My Definite Chief Aim” which laid out his goals and vision for his life. His desires manifested long before the goal he set.

Bruce Lee Letter

Bruce Lee didn’t just write this letter and wait for it to happen.  He took action steps – all successful people have an action plan.  Watch this video from success coach Jerry Gladstone as he takes you through reaching your goals Step-by-Step.

To explore the importance of having goals, you are going pretend that you taking a road trip.

Print out Worksheet #4 – Road Trip

Imagine that in one week’s time you will be leaving on a road trip that will take you to an exotic location of your choosing in the country where you live.

  • All expenses for this trip have been paid for, but no plans have been made on how to get there.
  • It has been left up to you to figure out the best way to get to this far-off destination.
  • You can get there any way you like as long as several stops are accomplished along the way.

Your trip must include the following planned stops:

  • Visits two museums in two large metropolitan cities.
  • An overnight stay in a cabin by a large body of water.
  • A visit to a professional sporting event.
  • Travel through a mountainous region.

You will have one week to reach your final destination.

On your worksheet, plan the route you will take to accomplish these stops and arrive at your final destination on time.

Then return to this module.

To complete this module, answer the questions below.

  • How does a trip resemble the concept of goal-setting?
  • What might the required stops along the way represent or symbolize?
  • What might the means of transportation represent or symbolize?
  • What’s needed for any successful effort to get from point A to point B?
  • Once you have established your goals, what are some of the most critical factors you need to think about if you are going to successfully reach your desired destination?
