Lighting Your Motivation Fire!
Sparking Your Inner Motivation to Reach Your Goals and Change Your Life
Welcome to Module #3 of the Common Thread Success Academy coaching program on “Lighting Your Fire – Sparking Your Inner Motivation to Reach Your Goals and Change Your Life.”
In Module #2 you identified key motivators that light your fire and motivate you to achieve a goal or make a change. In this module you will apply the elements of motivation to a prior personal goal achieved.
Before beginning to gather materials to make a fire, there must be a reason to start the fire in the first place.
What are some reasons you might want or need to build a fire? Some reasons may be for heat, to cook with, as a signal to others, or to have a central place where people will meet.
When building a fire, there is a goal for the fire. The fire will accomplish something for you. The same is true of personal goals you set for yourself. Your goal is to accomplish something that will better your life.
Additionally your desire has to be strong so you will achieve your goal. Certain things must be true about your goal in order for it to truly motivate you.
For example:
- It must be driven by a desire to attain something you truly want.
- It must be in alignment with your values.
- It must be compelling enough that you are willing to push through the status quo to pursue it.
- You have to believe in your goal enough that it motivates you into action.
And certain things must be true about you. In the video below, Common Thread Success Academy Founder and International Best Selling Author Jerry Gladstone talks about the 10 personality traits you need to develop to reach your goals.
Print out Worksheet #3 – “A Successful Fire”
On the top of the worksheet the fire represents a goal you have achieved and the motivation that spurred you on to achieve it.
Follow the instructions on the worksheet and answer the questions listed. Then return to this module.
In order to stay motivated to work towards a goal, the goal has to be compelling, in alignment with your values and beliefs, and meaningful enough to persevere through the lulls. You also have to experience meaningful results in order to keep the fire of your own motivation going.
Sometimes though, the effort is hard to sustain, and you may begin to lose motivation.
In the next module, you will investigate the reasons why your flame dies out and how to keep your motivation going.”
