Welcome to Module #2 of the Common Thread Success Academy coaching program on “Lighting Your Fire – Sparking Your Inner Motivation to Reach Your Goals and Change Your Life” where you continue your exploration of motivation by identifying what lights your fire – discovering your WHY.
Before you begin this module, take a few moments to review this video by success coach Jerry Gladstone to help you pinpoint and use your WHY.
To build a fire you need three things:
1) something to burn
2) heat
3) and air.
To have a healthy fire, you must know how to tend to it so it remains strong.
The same is true of our motivation—we must know what kinds of things spark us to take action.
Print out Worksheets #2a, 2b and 2c – Worksheet # 2a, b, c – My Motivation Sparks
There has been a great deal of research around the concept motivation and what motivates us. The images on Worksheets 2a & 2b represent the findings from this research.
Slowly review each image on the worksheets. Notice your reaction to each image and concept —whether it motivates you – whether it “fires you up” or not.
Then, rate each item by how strongly it motivates you using this scale:
- 1 spark = not motivating at all
- 2 sparks = somewhat motivating
- 3 sparks = highly motivating
There is also space at the bottom where you can write in any additional motivators that are personal for you. Write them in the space provided and rank them with a 1, 2 or 3.
After completing the worksheets, return to this module.
Next, review your ratings and identify your personal top three motivators. Put a “1”, “2”, and “3” in the space to the left of those motivators.
Then return to this module.
